Looking up Fifth Ave., in the midst of all the new modernity you still see the old flavor of New York, whether it be in the buildings, the sidewalks, or even in the iconic clock that still stands on the avenue, keeping perfect time as if to say “No matter how much you modify and modernize the city, the soul of the city will never change.”

This man was just strumming his guitar and sitting in the sun.
This was DJ, former Marine Sniper who served in Afghanistan. When he was wounded in action, he came home to only to end up on the streets of Manhattan. When he passed last year, he had just entered school but was still living on the streets. Now, there only stands a small sign to denote he was ever here at all. R.I.P DJ
The inimitable Zane Fix with his lady Stella, who are both prolific artists on the NYC scene. Zane is the owner of Stray Katz Gallery, and his Silkscreen on rice paper images of iconic rock stars are incredible. These are some cool people, very real and very brilliant.
A pair of young musicians heading toward practice at Lincoln Center. The fact that these two were twins, playing the same instrument was incredibly interesting.
Late evening in the Big Apple, and the lights glint off almost every surface and can be seen for miles. I love this city.

Travelling in this day and age has become so commonplace we barely take the time to look up. But there was a time when travelling was an undertaking not made lightly, and normally was a more celebrated endeavour which gave way to the Golden Age of Trains. Train hubs were built as small towns, with all the shops and amenities that wayfaring travellers would find both useful and entertaining, making a person’s trip more enjoyable.
Though travelling today is more tech-driven with GPS, WiFi, Internet and such technologies at our disposal, there are still so many bastions which harken back to a time when travelling was an adventure to embrace and enjoy, and time meant more than getting from A to B. Those were days where your next adventure was just a train ticket away.
Time – Midday in NYC, location – Grand Central Station. A man stands in a ray of sunlight, as he patiently awaits his train. He is not a person used to waiting, but accustomed to getting things done. I met this gentleman while waiting for a train. The light hitting him was dramatic and strong, much like he was. I find the light in #Grand Central to be some of the best natural, ambient light if viewed at the right time of day. I love shooting in this kind of light, as it always brings out the best in a subject. I look forward to more candids such as this.
